Aquavitae

Worry not and let your troubles be still

I will take the wine I made from your tears

Know that even such bitter things can

Be made into sweet water when they have been

Tended to carefully over time.

I will bring the wine to the edge of the world

The Gods and I will sip and dance and sing

In the Northern Lights where their hearts blend

With the crisp clean air where no eyes

Can see them bathing in our love.

Remember what is inside me moves inside you

This is not one of those bullshit poems

Where I say I will catch you when you fall

Because if you are already falling

I am not strong enough to stop what must happen.

Let’s go swim in the mare de lacrimas

We’ll float, we’ll glide through the salty water

And when you’re ready, we’ll dive

Cutting through the water (it won’t be so cold, I promise)

We’ll attack the ocean bed with our laughter.

We’ll listen to the twinkling crackling sound of pain

It’ll flit, and fly away, and it will firebrand you and me

To remind us that it was once there just like

Shadows remind the rest of the world

That we were just there, if only for a moment.

Hush! Think, “I am still here!”

The battles are long gone and have become nothing but

Echoes so I want you to let the tethers go, and feel

At least a little free and then let’s close our eyes and take a

Deep draught of this lovely, sweet, wine
