Plate Tectonics
There are oceans between us.
They sprang suddenly from silence
Filling the cold canyons
In the spaces that we made
When we let the gaps run too deep.
Those riverbeds that once flowed with
Such sweet water have succumbed to
Bitter and frigid waves that now
Span for miles upon miles.
Turn around. Move swiftly.
Soon these tectonics will not be so
forgiving.
The ground is already shifting
Beneath our feet.
Perhaps someday when the water
Has calmed and frozen into glass
We can bundle up and skate leisurely
Into our former memories
together.
