Songs from the Depths

I let a siren song lure me into the

Sapphire water of the sea and

Just as I broke through the surface

I knew that I would never

return.

Most of me had already broken off,

Piece by piece like icebergs floating

into the horizon.

By the time the song reached my

Cracked and frozen temples

Shades and shadows

Had become the only companions

I knew.

The fair-haired siren, she whispered to me

Secrets of youth and love,

Songs from the depths of the sea.

And so I slept through my descent downward,

Engulfed within the dark rapture

of the deep.

Now the mermaids sing, but not to me,

While human voices call to wake me

until I drown.

And you, my sweet fair-haired siren,

Will be gone when I wake

As you whispered those same secrets to me

In my bed on that restless spring night,

When that flaming torch inside my heart

Still burned ever

so brightly.
